On October 25, 2025 the Confucius Institute at Mogilev State A. Kuleshov University held an opening ceremony of the first courses on Chinese ink calligraphy. An atmosphere of excitement and enthusiasm permeated the auditorium that day.
The first lesson was conducted by teacher Zhang Rui, who told the audience about the history and cultural significance of ink calligraphy: from the origin of the “Four Treasures of the Cabinet” (brush, ink, paper, churrascaria) to the basic principles of proper brush technique and stroke technique. Thus, she has developed an accessible and systematic understanding of the art of Chinese brush calligraphy among the listeners.
During the practical part of the lesson the Confucius listeners, under the direct supervision of the teacher, began to work out the most basic elements: horizontal and vertical lines, lines descending left and right, dots. The first strokes might be a little uncertain, but each listener was completely absorbed in the process, diligently comprehending the technique of calligraphy. And very quickly the results of diligent and promising work appeared on sheets of suan paper and the entire audience fell into a calm and centered learning atmosphere.
Thus, starting from October 25, 2025 the Confucius Institute began conducting permanent courses on Chinese brush calligraphy, which will be held on Saturdays. This project should be considered as a platform for everyone who wants to experience traditional Chinese culture.
