The publication contains the first in Belarus analysis of the archaeological study of agrarian rules on the territory of the forest zone of Europe in the area of formation and distribution of medieval Slavs and the adjacent German population. The study methodology and achievements of archaeologists in Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, as well as some generalizing publications on this topic by English and French archaeologists are considered.
