The publication highlights the defensive battles on the territory of the Mogilev region and points out their features. The great importance of the defense of Mogilev in delaying the advance of Army Group Center in the main Moscow direction is emphasized. The origin and development of partisan and underground movement, the expulsion of German troops from the Mogilev land is shown. The accumulated and generalized factual and archival material presented in this publication reveals the main aspects of the history of the region during the Great Patriotic War and can be used in the study and dissemination of historical knowledge in the preparation of essays and reports  thus molding patriotic traditions of the Belarusian people while educating younger generation. Moreover, in our time, attempts are being made to rewrite history, including the history of the Great Patriotic War, in favor of certain political trends.
